Personal Statement Examples For All Career Stages

When you’re choosing a film, TV program or book, what do you look at? The summary. The blurb. Those crucial few lines in the bottom-right-hand corner of the Netflix tab, on the back of the DVD, or the book are all you need to know. In a fraction of the time you’d take to decide on a meal in a restaurant, your judgment is made and the DVD is either bought and taken home or tossed back on the shelf.

It’s the same with personal statements. Does yours sell yourself to the absolute max? When you’ve spent hours crafting a CV and cover letter, it can be tricky to decide what to put in those scary few lines at the top. You might think “surely I’ve said all there is to say already!”. Piecing out what information should go where on your application is no easy task, we know! But in order to give yourself the chance to shine you deserve, it’s worth taking a few extra minutes to perfect the finishing touches.

As experienced recruiters, we’ve seen our fair share of personal statements in our time. From career changers to graduates to people who have just been made redundant, we’ve seen the good, the bad and the just plain bizarre! When you’re trying to stand out whilst looking like a good fit, we understand it can be tricky to get the balance right.

To help you get an idea of the type of concise, clear and callback-ready personal statements that will help get you to that crucial interview stage, we’ve put together some examples for you to work with. The key thing all of them have in common is that they convey the unique selling points of each candidate and focus on the positive aspects of their current situations.

If you’ve been staring at that blinking cursor, trying to think of an original way to introduce yourself then have a look at some of our key examples below for a little inspiration…
